Fly fishing is an ancient angling method dating back to as early as the second century in Macedonia. During the early times, fly fishing was primarily used to catch salmon and trout and it later evolved to a technique to catch other species of fish like carp, bass and pike.

Fly fishing involves the use of hairs and feathers that are prepared to resemble insects and small animals as fish lures. This bait is called a fly.

There are five kinds of flies. The dry fly is prepared to look like insects floating on the water. The wet fly, on the other hand, is made to imitate insects under the surface of the water. The insects are called emergers. The streamer fly mimics injured fish. Some types of fish, specially the bigger ones, attack other fish in spawning areas. Another kind of fly is the terrestrial fly. The terrestrial fly imitates ground insects like crickets, butterflies, moths and grasshoppers that have fallen into the water. The last kind of fly is the nymph fly. The nymph fly mimics larva and pupa of insects.
